Hi Kathleen! I love your photos. I am trying to develop my skill in photography and hope to reach a professional level. What advice can you give to someone just getting started?
Oh Alyssa, that is such a big question! But I will certainly try to help. I definitely wouldn’t consider myself a professional yet, but I am on my way, so I can certainly give you some insights on the early part of the business and photography journey.
1. Practice as much as you can. Seriously. Every day if possible. All of the reading in the world won’t help you if you are not picking up the camera on a regular basis.
2. Read as much as you can! Get involved in some photography forums. (The free ones! I promise that the same info is on the free ones as is in the paid ones. Experience and wasted money has taught me that.)
3. Take your time with the business stuff. Most of us, including me, rush into the business side of photography before we know what we are doing with our cameras. Do your self a favor and SLOW down. Your blood pressure will thank you, and your business will be more successful if you have the photog skills to back it up.
Looks like this needs to get turned into a full blown blog post! I will work on that!
By the way, where did you make this slideshow of photos? I’d like to make one for myself soon and post it on my blog http://seekersportal.wordpress.com.
