Thursday Threads :: A Shimmery and Chic Halloween

28 Oct

While Halloween is typically made for gaudy, over-the-top costumes, I thought I would take a look at the chic side of the holiday.

There are people in this world who spend Halloween gallery hopping and wine tasting.  It seems like a magical world, doesn’t it?  To spend Halloween discussing Monet and sipping a dark Sauvignon.  A little boring maybe, but still magical.

I tend to spend Halloween covered in some sort of ridiculous homemade costume concoction trying to get the elderly to give me candy even though I am clearly too old and I don’t have any adorable children.  But… if I were of a classier breed, this is the costume I would choose…

1. Great Horned Owl Mask by SundriesAndPlunder

2. Brown Log Clutch by anotherjamiedavis

3. Intelligent Design – Fine Art Photograph – Owl by irenesuchocki

4. Multicolored Feather Cuff Bracelet by simplyvintagejewelry

5. Ivory Silk Chiffon and Lace Dress by hollystalder

What will your Halloween costume be this year?  Are you going a classier route?  Homemade goodness?  Straight from the store or catalog?  I would love to hear the details!  Or, even better, send me a link to a picture!

Happy Halloween, my friends.

Thursday Threads :: Etsy Love

7 Oct

Many of you know that I also sell my fine art prints on Etsy, so I have lots of Etsy love.  I love browsing the categories, the proverbial window shopping of Etsy.  I love checking out the front page and treasuries, and I love adding all kinds of handmade gems to my favorites list.

So, this week’s threads comes from my friends in the handmade community: a simple but chic tunic look, paired with over the shoulder clutch and matching triangle necklace.  I also included a to-die-for vintage camera, since this is a photography site and all!

1. Purple Pleated Tunic by larimeloom

2. Coffee Bean Leather Clutch by jennyndesign

3. Copper Banner Necklace by littlepapercrane

4. Vintage Lancer Camera by domestikate

Just so you know, that camera might just be gone by the time you click on the link.  I have a slight obsession for vintage camera.  They don’t even have to work…

Anyone want to talk me into spending more money than I should?

Thursday Threads :: The Ting Tings

30 Sep

Today’s Thursday Thread is a bit more inspirational in nature. I am featuring a band, a look, an essence, not a store. Deep, I know.

Ronald and I have a bit of an obsession with quirky British things. I think we are destined to live overseas. This obsession has recently spread to The Ting Tings, an English band full of the funk and quirk that I adore.

Lead singer, Katie White, is pure fashion awesomeness. Anyone that can pull off a hat with every outfit has some serious style. I swear, hats are the most difficult fashion accessory, but Katie White has definitely tamed the beast.  She also makes many of her own clothes.  How cool it that.  I want to be cool and British.

And let’s not forget Jules.  Jules de Martino is the other half of The Ting Tings, and he rocks a very streamlined, techno look usually comprised of a leather jacket and aviator glasses.

Check out some pics:

Fashion tips from The Ting Tings:

1. Bold is fun, go colorful and go bold

2. Tights rock, pair them with short shorts or a puffy skirt, add some tennis shoes to keep it fun

3. Hats are the ultimate accessory, but be cautioned, only a select few can even hope to pull it off

4. Boys: Adidas shoes and aviator glasses, you can’t go wrong

5. If you can’t find it in a store, make it yourself.  (Then, make it for me, cause I can’t sew worth crap. :) )

Thursday Threads :: francesca’s

23 Sep

It’s Thursday.  And Thursdays are for fun, fashiony things.  And today’s fashiony thing is Francesca’s Collection.

I literally stumbled into Francesca’s one day as I was making a bee line from my car to The Loft.  I was on one of my “mission” shopping trips.  No time to play around.  I just had to run in, find x, y, and z, and get out of there.

About two doors down from my destination, I pass this little nook of a store that I vaguely remember passing before.  Honestly, it looked like one of those schmancy boutiques that I have no business being in.  But, for the first time, I took a closer look in the window.  Ah!  What had I been missing?!

The clothing was trendy and young, and the accessories, killer!  Still, I almost walked right past.  I thought for sure that it would be way too expensive.  Wrong again!  It was so very affordable.  I walked out of there with a purse on sale for 20 bucks and a sweater that was about the same*.

Moral of the story: Never take the mall you think you know for granted.  One day, it too may surprise you.  Keep your eyes open, young grasshopper.

Anyways, take a look…

* According to my Ronald, I have a bit of a problem when it comes to rounding numbers, at least when it comes to shopping :)   In the world of reality, I could have paid anywhere from $20 to $50 for that purse.  In the world of happy, shopping Katie, I got that purse for 20 bucks.  I do  hate to lead you astray, so please accept my apologies.

Now, how on earth do you add in that smiley face with the sheepish grin!?

I got the glasses!

21 Sep

I did it, my friends!  I bought the fredflare.com, heart-shaped glasses.  And now I am happy :)

I blogged about my fascination with the shades a few weeks ago, and with a nice free-shipping push, I ordered them the next day!

I am a total sucker for things like this.  There a bit too cutesy, and I can’t picture myself wearing them out of the house, but they bring a certain amount of joy to my little heart.  I just had to add it to my arsenal of props.  Some day I will need something perfect for a photo shoot or a Halloween costume, and out will come the heart-shaped glasses!

I snapped a few quick pictures so that you could enjoy them with me.

Hmmm, I probably should have taken a happier picture of me in those glasses.  I look pretty serious!  Forgive me, I suppose that’s what I get for trying to take blog photos when I really just needed a nap!

Thursday Threads :: Rover

16 Sep

This week’s fashion Thursday Threads is a little different.  The cloths aren’t exactly for you. They are for your little, furry best friend :)

I found Rover a couple of weeks ago on Etsy, and I just about died.  Rover co-founders, AnneMarie and Gillian, have created the most regal, most adorable line of dog clothing and accessories that I have ever seen.

I think what got me even more than the little, tiny dog shirts were the photos!  Look at those pups; so austere, so majestic.  I just can’t get enough of them.

Now, I know that I could never get my dog in one of these things.  Ronald and I tried once…  We ended up with a very agitated dog and shards of fabric all over our floor.  We even tried the dog snuggie once.  Yes, they make them!  But that story if for another day ;)

I want to hear your puppy stories!  Show me your adorable photos of the dogs in your life that think their people.  It may not be my usual photography stuff, but I don’t care; I want to see some more photos of dogs in shirts :)

Then, go show Rover some love.
